custodial and grounds service level reductions for state-supported space

The budget crisis has hit UCI from the top to the bottom, right down to your office floor. As a result, grounds and custodial service levels for State-supported space will be reduced in September 2009.

Budgetary Factors

UC Irvine has a $77 million budget gap this fiscal year due to reduced State support. Therefore, Facilities Management must decrease operating expenses by 20%.

Service Priorities

Facilities Management must maintain campus infrastructure that:

• supports our essential teaching, research, and service mission
• impacts the health and safety of our community

The appearance of campus grounds and buildings accordingly takes secondary-priority.

Trash Disposal

“Wet trash” (all manner of food waste and the like – such as coffee grounds and bits of leftover food) needs to be emptied on a regular basis. Please take your trash to a central trash receptacle and contact your building facility manager/administrator for trash can liners. If you have questions, contact Rob Rice at extension 4-9341.
