In Fall, 2005. UCI launched a new initiative "Conserve UCI" to underscore our commitment to energy conservation. The campaign urges our campus community to: Think (Stop and think about how we use energy and how it impacts our environment), Act (Make a commitment to conserve by using energy wisely) and Save (Save energy, natural resources, money and the environment).

In addition to refocusing our attention to our role as responsible custodians of our environment, the intitiative addresses the budgetary shortfall for purchased utilities.

The campus' utilities budget is facing a deficit that could soon exceed several million dollars annually.  Large increases in commodity prices and the State budget shortfall have caused this problem.  Closing this gap will require aggressive, campus-wide measures to reduce energy consumption.
