Update: Our playhouse was sold for $40,000 at auction. Its new home will be in Sun Valley, Idaho.

“Participating in Project Playhouse gives us the opportunity to use our skills for a good cause and at the same time allows us to showcase our talents. I look forward to the finished product and am hopeful that it will garner a large donation for the worthy cause,” said Bill Mitchell.

Coast Machinery Movers volunteered to transport the playhouse, Sept 7.

Project Playhouse:
Facilities Management Trades Builds for Charity

Since 1989, builders and developers have come together to help alleviate homelessness in Orange County. Project Playhouse is held each fall at Fashion Island. Participants enter their unique themed and custom-built playhouse for auction, with the proceeds supporting HomeAid Orange County.

This year, Bill Mitchell, the supervisor of the carpenter shop, will be leading the first UCI team to participate in Project Playhouse. Bill joined Facilities earlier this year, and brought with him the desire to contribute his skills to the HomeAid effort.

The playhouse will be a Cape Cod style – complete with dormers, an inside loft, "working" fireplace, plasma TV and a porch swing.

The building supplies, and interior furnishings and landscaping were all donated and the work going into the playhouse, including design, building, decorating was completed by volunteers during off-hours.

"Fun at the Cape Escape" all decked out at Fashion Island .

This would not have been possible without the generosity of our supporters.
