The outcome of our efforts, two examples of how UCI saved money:

New metering system for monitoring building energy use.

Occupancy sensor for fume hood energy savings.

Efficiency and conservation of energy are more important than ever. We invest constantly in energy-conserving technology that will pay us back in savings as quickly as possible.

Facilities Management’s goal of exceeding Title 24 Energy Mandates By 20% has been recognized by Southern California Edison.

In addition to the programs in which UCI participates with SCE, Facilities Management has taken many energy savings steps to both be conservation-wise and help close the energy budgetary gap. Please read more about them at UCI’s conservation program, Think. Act. Save.

SCE Recognizes Energy Savings at UCI

Paul Howland, Director of Plant Operations, and Paul Wingco, Campus Energy Manager, discuss energy projects.

Southern California Edison (SCE) is using UCI as a case study for large organizations that take advantage of special energy savings programs.

Facilities Management participates in the following programs:

-The Standard Performance Contract which saved 3.3 million kWh last year.

-The Energy Efficiency Partnership Program which saved 1.5 million kWh last year.

- The Savings by Design program which advises Facilities Management on the most energy efficient ways to design new and remodel existing facilities. This program is saving the University many kWh and will continue to do so as UCI continues to grow.
