strategic energy plan

The Strategic Energy Plan, sponsored by the UC Office of the President, will serve to identify, quantify and prioritize energy efficiency projects, identify on site renewable energy resource opportunities and generally assist campuses with attaining the goals set under the provisions of the UC Policy on Sustainable Practices.

The UC Policy on Sustainable Practices details goals and benchmarks on topics including Green Buildings, Clean Energy, Climate Protection Practices, Sustainable Transportation Practices, Sustainable Operations, Recycling and Waste Management, and Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Practices.

A master consultant hired by OP will administer the Strategic Energy Plan. Sub-consultants assigned to each campus will walk the campus buildings and identify opportunities for energy projects that support the goals of the policy on sustainable practices.

Consultants have been working with the campus energy team during February and will be here through March. Based on their combined findings, the team will then begin developing project proposals. The 5-year systemwide Strategic Energy Partnership is hoping to secure up to $500 Million in funding from the California Public Utilities Commission to support this program. Funding will be available in 2009.
