... or what we did while you were on vacation

While UCI is on break, the Facilities Management Renovation Team is completing projects that can only be done when students are not on campus. For example, imagine replacing showers in student housing during the middle of a semester, and explaining to the students that the water is only going to be off for a week... we don’t think so! Or, renovating classrooms a bit at a time in the ten minutes between scheduled classes … not very supportive of the instructional program!

Because the campus is on-the-go 24/7 while classes are in session, we take advantage of every break to get as much accomplished as is possible. During this year's winter break, we completed 16 projects, and we already have 18 projects scheduled for summer. Tackling projects during breaks requires meticulous planning, careful and realistic examination of jobs that can be successfully completed in a compressed time frame, and close monitoring of job progress to insure timely completion.

You can help the Facilities Renovation Team help you by identifying such projects well in advance- just fill out an FMR. We are also here to help you budget and plan your project. The sooner you begin planning the smoother your project.

And, don't forget us while we are busily working to support our campus while much of the UCI family is lying on the beach reading a good book, hiking a wondrous new trail in the sweet-smelling woods, visiting new lands, doing their own renovations projects at home or otherwise enjoying break!
